Detroit City FC sees Dominic Gasso return as Academy signing

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed midfielder Dominic Gasso to a USL Academy contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Gasso returns as a USL Academy signing for Le Rouge for a second season having made a pair of appearances in the Championship a season ago. The 19-year-old made his professional debut away to the Charleston Battery in the club’s 3-0 win on August 27. He made his second appearance on the road in Detroit City FC’s 4-0 win against Loudoun United FC in Le Rouge’s penultimate match of the regular season where he saw 14 minutes of action.

As a USL Academy signing, Gasso is eligible to compete for Detroit City FC in the USL Championship and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while retaining his NCAA eligiblity.

Prior to making his professional debut, the Grand Blanc, Mich. native competed last year for Le Rouge’s Academy team at the USL Academy Cup in March. He had previously competed for Vardar Academy and the Flint City Bucks Academy before joining the Detroit City FC U19 Boys Academy team.
