The very best performers from a competitive Academy Cup

The 2022 Academy Cup showed some of the best young soccer talent in the nation, as current and future pros went head-to-head every day for a full weekend. Some of those young stars separated themselves from the pack as the weekend’s top performers. Here are your 2022 Academy Cup award winners:

Golden Boot Winners

U-13 Boys

John Pericles/Aren Fagundo
Forwards
Tampa Bay United U13B
Pericles and Fagundo scored four goals apiece over the weekend, making Tampa Bay United by far the most prolific attacking team in the division.

Indy Eleven U13B
Indy Eleven's production largely fell to the feet of Olea, who was clinical in front of goal and put his teams' chances away all weekend.

AC Connecticut U13B
AC Connecticut had only one scored goal heading into their final game, but a massive performance from Adeyemo against Wake FC led to his total on the weekend ringing up to four goals. The forward made it count when he got opportunities in the Sunday matchup

Sakalosky continued Tampa Bay United’s impressive showing on the weekend, scoring four of Tampa Bay’s division-leading seven goals.

All but one goal scored by division winners Weston FC were scored by Piekut, as he consistently hounded the opposing box on a team that played possession-style soccer.

Every Boys’ division Golden Boot was won by someone from Tampa Bay United’s club. The prolific attack from Lugo propelled the team to a championship appearance. His five goals helped TBU to their complete dominance of their group.

Indy Eleven U19B
Five of Indy’s six goals were scored by Iaccino, as he was a constant threat for teams trying to take down the eventual champions.

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC U19G
The most dominant attacking team of the weekend, Red Wolves scored 13 goals, leaving three of their players in the top four of the Golden Boot standings. On top is Cooper and Heavrin, who scored four in three games.

Runners up: Martha Bishop (Greenville Triumph), Alixandria Fletcher (Chattanooga Red Wolves)

On top of having the most productive attack, TBU were also rock solid in goal. Their efforts on the line propelled them to a championship appearance, saving shots left and right.

Weston FC U15B
Jean-Baptiste was tested heavily in the final game of the weekend but came up massive when it counted. Without his effort in net, Weston FC don’t lift the trophy on Sunday, as the young shot stopper gave his all.

Indy Eleven U19B
No stranger to the USL scene, Svetanoff was a towering presence in net that organized the defense, imposed himself on attackers and distributed intelligently. His penalty saves to close the weekend gave Indy Eleven the championship in a high-intensity match.

The most dominant team of the weekend was NC Fusion, and they were held down by Wommack’s effort in goal. Through four games, Wommack allowed just one goal, despite 21 more goals being scored by other teams in the group.

Valdivia coached Weston against the most prolific team of the group stage, and they steeled themselves for a tough win. Weston’s possession-based style requires great team chemistry and great passing, both of which Weston had.

Winning two championships in two different divisions is tough, but Weston FC’s coaches managed it over an intense weekend, in which both the U-13 and U-15 Weston teams put on gritty performances in the final.

While many of the crowds focused on Queensboro FC and Indy Eleven, Brian Johnson’s Tampa Bay team was dominating their group en route to the final game. The Tampa squad was disciplined, imposing on free kicks and aggressive on the counterattack.

NC Fusion dominated both sides of the ball over the weekend, taking all three points from every match they played – including the championship. Their dominant showing was a testament to Cirillo’s coaching, as the girls on the team were connected, precise and aggressive.

McArtor’s leadership guided what was possibly the most completely dominant team through the first three games in any division over the weekend. The scoring may not have fallen to his feet as often as his Golden Boot-winning teammates, but the run of play went through him.

A technically gifted attacking midfielder, Alex Vaz set the tone for Hartford. He showed a special confidence moving around defenders, and especially showed his value in Hartford's 2-2 draw with Louisville City FC.

From late-game heroics to iconic celebrations, Iaccino was the heartbeat of Indy Eleven’s championship run. His leadership showed through as his teams rallied around him, and they looked to him for direction.

Summers led the dominant Fusion team that found their way to the very top in the girls’ division over the weekend. Between Summers and Wommack, the goal line was airtight for a successful weekend from NC Fusion.
